DYC CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
As I start my first year as the Durham Young Caravanners Chairman, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Laura Charlton and all of the DYC Committee who helped raise over £1000 for our chosen charity the Education Centre for Children with Downs Syndrome. I would also like to thank all the parents and ralliers who have donated prizes and time at all of our events. The new DYC Committee are really pleased to be working once again with the Young Caravanners Liaison Officer, Elaine Bell, who points us in the right direction and gives us support all through the season.

I hope that we will be as successful in the next season with our fund raising efforts. With everyone's help, I am sure we will be. Our chosen charity is going to be Northeast Air Ambulance. As well as money, they also take old mobile phones, used stamps and used ink cartridges. So start collecting now.
We look forward to seeing you all on future rallies.
Helen Bell.
Chairman.
Our choosen Charity for 2008 will be Northeast Air Ambulance.
We have started raising money at Witton Castle on hot dogs and guy Fawkes competition where we raised £126.Do not forget your used ink cartridges, and old mobile phones.
The Great North Air Ambulance offers a free service to the people it serves, receives no government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of the general public.
Members of the Committee and the DYCC together with their families attended the Education Centre for Children with Down Syndrome to present the cheque to the centre. We met the staff and the children who were excitedly enjoying their Christmas party. They made us very welcome and were thrilled with the money we raised for them. Thanks again to anyone who helped in anyway to raise the £1000.
CHRISTMAS PANTOMIME
The Gala Theatre in Durham was the meeting place for the first event in Durham Centre's 2008 Programme. The pantomime, "Sleeping Beauty", was being performed there and anyone in the Centre could join with Elaine Bell, the Organiser, to attend the Saturday afternoon performance on the 5th January. It was disappointing that only 10 of us attended.
From the initial raising of the curtain, it was clear that everyone, old and young, were to enter into the spirit of "Pantomime". A tale every child would hear and read, Sleeping Beauty is the good against evil theme, enjoyed by us all. The stage area was used superbly, with the scenery of the highest standard. Costumes were spectacular as was the dancing from the older and younger members of the cast. Lighting and sound gave the performance an extra dimension throughout.
The jester, who, although small in stature was huge in enthusiasm and encouraged audience participation with "boos"for the wicked fairy and "oohs" for the good fairy and had everyone joining in the singing.
We hope that support will be given to the Durham Centre Young Caravanners and their Liaison Officer who are hoping to repeat this year's Pantomime visit next January.
